Sleeping Clean and Comfy at Camp...even with bug bites

Sleeping Clean and Comfy at Camp...even with bug bites

Summer is upon us and so are the bugs; that means there’s a good chance you’ll be some mosquito’s dinner while you’re trying to enjoy the fresh air.  That sometimes mean you have a hot restless night in your sleeping bag tossing, turning, and scratching, but guess what? We have the solution for you!  You don’t need to have a portable shower to freshen up at camp! Here’s some steps to follow to help you freshen up at camp even after being covered in mosquito bites.

No shower or special gear needed :) keep reading to learn how you can save yourself from another restless night!

1. Do a quick “rinse-free” reset- helps a bunch!

  • Just grab a damp t-shirt, a bandana, or a re-usable towel and add a little bit of biodegradable soap (Check out our options if you’re in need of one!!!) and give yourself a wipe down. Wipe your face, neck and underarms. Work your way down to the back of your knees and feet too! Be thorough!

  • Follow this up with a splash of water and dry off with the cloth

2. Soothe your bug bites

  • Rub a non-toxic, biodegradable soap bar with anti-inflammatory soothing ingredients like our Turmeric Trance soap bar.  Ingredients like turmeric or eucalyptus can help soothe inflammation in your bug bites.

  •   Apply a dot of coconut oil or salve to affected areas

  • Dab areas with some aloe or witch hazel

3. Cool Down without a shower.. because overheated skin = restless sleep

  • Take a seat outdoors for a bit and take off your boots! Feel the breeze on your toes and do some grounding.  Chill like this for like 5- 10 minutes!

  • Soak the same wiping cloth as earlier in some cold water and wrap around your neck for cooling.

  • Mist your face with some rosewater or witch hazel spray

4. Clean Sleep Gear = Clean Feeling

  • Make sure to keep a designated base layer that stays sealed until bedtime in your sleeping bag or mattress… who knew making your bed had an actual purpose?

  • Dust off your sleeping pad with a dry cloth before use to prevent any sticks or rocks from causing damage or poking at you while you sleep

  • Store your dirty laundry away from your head keep it in a designated space

PRO TIP- store your sleeping clothes in a pillowcase.  This keeps them clean and keeps dust off!

Lastly make sure to close each day out on the trail with a grounded ritual.  Focus on providing yourself with comfort and care in the chaos; this is a practice that we can use in our everyday lives!  Wrap up your nights at camp with at least 30 seconds of slow breathing and quiet time.
